Brady is being honored nationwide for her role in earninbg greater recognition of the San Antonio Publidc Library ona decision-making level withinb the city. This has resulted in a consolidatecd initiative to create a sustainable funding base for thelibrarh system. The city proposed designating a portionj of the sales tax forlibrary funding. “Since her election to the Chai r of the Board of Trustees of the San AntonioPublif Library, Jean has dedicated her time and energy to raisingb the library’s profile with community San Antonio Public Library Director Ramiro Salazar “More than just an advocate, she has demonstratex leadership throughout her term of developing and implementing strategies to effectively present the library’a case to both government and the communityu at large.
” As board Brady formed a Library Advocacu Committee that lobbied City Councilp and directed outreach efforts. She also createdf a speakers’ bureau to make presentations about the libraryy to civic organizations andcommunitty groups. She also pivotal in findinvg platforms that communicated thelibrary system’s role in qualitty of life issues. “Jean’s community leadership skillw made the San Antonio Public Library notonly relevant, but also critica to the lives of San Antonians,” says Eva director of libraries for the Dentonh Public Library and chair of the 2009 Urban Player Award Selection Committee. Brady will also receivd a checkfor $1,000.
