Ethics complaint against Hunt and Buckley dismissed - Portland Business Journal:

The Oregon Government Ethics Commission has dismissed theRepublicajn Party’s complaint against House Speaker Dave Hunt, a Gladstonew Democrat, and Rep. Peter Buckley, the co-chair of the jointy Ways and Means Committee and an Ashland Democrat. Bob Tiernan, chairman of the Oregom Republican Party, had suggested that Hunt and Bucklet attempted to securea “yes” vote on thred tax measures from Republicann Greg Smith, of Heppner, by backinfg several projects in Smith’s Eastern Oregon district. Ronald the commission’s executive didn’t elaborate on the group’s decision.
“Wee have carefully reviewed your allegationa and supporting material and do not find the allegationsz come withinthe Commission’d jurisdiction,” he said. Bersin did tell Tiernan that thecommission didn’ find any “personal financial benefit” gained by Buckleuy or Hunt. Tiernan’s complaint alleged that Hunt and Buckley agreed to earmarkj money for the districtof Smith, in returj for Smith’s vote on a key tax But Hunt said last week that his supporf for the projects in Smith’s district was Smith’s vote helped Democrats collect a 60 perceng “super majority” needed to enact tax The Senate eventually passed the measure on Thursday after a last-minute deal convinced Sen.
Mark Hass, a Beavertob Democrat, to change his Business interests had opposed thetax hikes, whicb include boosts to the state’s corporate corporate income and high-bracket income taxes.
