Denver awards contracts in stimulus-funded jobs program - Denver Business Journal:

The Denver Housing Authority, Goodwill Industries of Denve r and Servicios de La Raza are overseeing the job placemeny of about 600 youths and young adults this The three contractstotal $753,070, officials Denver received $4.7 million under the federalk American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for workforc e development programs. Of that $1.9 million is for youth employmentand training. "Thesed contracts represent the first federal stimuluws dollars flowing through the Denver Office of Economic Developmenft that benefit local businesses andour community," Pettigrew, executive director of the Denve OED, said in a statement.
"The programj provides an important resource for businesses to fill jobs whilse helping youth gainworkforce knowledge, skills and abilities that will lead to successful and sustainable employment." The program aims to place "at risk" youths and young adults ages 14 to 24 in jobs providingb up to 160 hours of summefr employment at businesses, nonprofits and government organizations.
