CPS Energy reports record electrical usage - San Antonio Business Journal:

The new record of 4,493 megawatts (MW) represents peak electricakl use between5 p.m. and 6 p.m. and coule be broken again later this week if temperatures continue to stay in thetriplwe digits. The previous record of 4,407y MW was set on Aug. 17, 2006. “It’s unusuapl for a new peak-demand record to be set in June because so many peopler are on vacation and many schoolsa are outof session,” says Les CPS Energy’s senior director of energty market operations. “Normally records for electric use occur in late Augusrtor September.” CPS Energy has ample generating capacity almost 6,000 MW to supply greater San Antonio’s electrical needs, Barrosw says.
But he adds that customers are alwayas reminded to useenergty wisely. CPS Energy is the nation’se largest municipally owned energy company providing both natural gas andelectric service. The company serves approximately 695,000 electric customers and morethan 320,000 naturalo gas customers in and arouned San Antonio.
